I have a Toshiba Equium A210-1C4, which will not boot. I was on it one minute, went back about half an hour later and it was turned off and was not booting. It gets to the "toshiba" logo screen and the bar fills about 3/4 fall then just stops. Makes a beeping noise, cannot get into set up, can only press "Esc" which shows some data. Seems very odd but does anyone have a single idea what could be wrong here?

    Cheers In Advance

    Hi,

Can you describe the beeping noise--one long beep or a certain number of small beeps repeated in a cycle?

The bar that fills up 3/4 way is it the Toshiba screen or is it a Windows screen?

no the beeping is when you click on the keyboard and the bar is on the toshiba screen :/

tried to remove ram and harddrive but no such luck

    any ideas will be appreciated

    cheers

So you tried to boot it with the HD out and it stuck at the same spot?

I seem to remember a certain model of Toshiba where the CD drive was freezing things up during POST (your Toshiba screen). I believe there is just one screw holding in the CD drive it might be worth sliding it out and seeing if it boots.

Glad we found the problem. You're model is very difficult to find any information on, it seems to be disinherited by Toshiba.

The model that had that CD problem was a while back. I believe that putting the faulty CDROM back in just had the effect of causing it to halt POST. If I remember correctly in those cases it was a genuinely dead CDROM but instead of ignoring it, POST just stopped. It couldn't hurt to put it back in and see if the problem reoccurs.

If it stops again then I think the only option is to buy a replacement for the drive. If it has the ability to boot from USB stick that might be a workaround for most purposes but it depends on what you use the CD drive for.

I'm not sure what else to tell you. I couldn't find your exact model any where. Does your laptop have any other model number on the tag at the bottom?

Is the CD drive a SATA or IDE? Also I know it's obvious, but is there a CD in it?
