Toshiba laptop problems

Hi,

I have a thread going in the Malware forum [thread=215582]Here[/thread]. chaslang and TimW advised me to post here. In the first post in the Malware forum I mentioned a memory error. That error doesn't happen anymore it stopped after running Chkdsk with both boxes ticked. I am able to open System Restore and msconfig since running Chkdsk as well. I have restored back as far as I can with system restore. There are a few other things going on that I didn't mention in the Malware forum,

There is an IDE #1 error when starting or rebooting, this is in the top left hand corner of the black screen with a blinking cursor that comes up just before the screen that gives the option to boot into the Recovery Console or Windows. I assume that is because the DVD/RW doesn't work.

When I open Network Connections, the window opens but there are no connections listed.

When I restart or shutdown the computer a window opens and it says "End Program - Sample" to return to Windows and check the status of the program, click cancel. I have to click End Now for the computer to reboot or shutdown.

I realize the computer may be beyond repair, but any help you can offer would be appreciated.

I think it will be quite easy to get rid of your first error to do with the optical drive.

Go into your computer's bios (usually pressing F2 or F8) and change the boot order. Either disable CD/DVD drive or change its position to after the HDD.

I put the DVD drive after the HDD but the error is still there. Couldn't disable the DVD. Thanks for the suggestion tho.
