I found functional Toshiba Satellite A65 notebook?laptop in our house.
Outside of being old, it works fine. I decided to revive it for 2nd laptop work use but, it will not connect to wifi.
It hangs either on "waiting on wifi" or "can not obtain credentials" messages.
I spent about 2 hrs yesterday, going through every internet trick for W XP I could find, to make wifi work. No mas. Wifi adapter shows as properly working, at some point, I had it connected to WIFI but it never asks for password and, as such, there is no internet connection.
I rebooted machine to the earliest restore point I could find, same thing. It will not ask for password. It recognizes all wifi networks around me, shows them as secure, but will not ask for password and I can't figure how to enter it manually.
Again, I did EVERY trick I could Google for Windows XP. Same story - can't enter wifi password. Unfortunately, ethernet cable is not an option where it will be positioned.
Any ideas, how I can manually enter WiFi password?

I ma messing with it again.
I am connected to wifi netwrok but, it is asking for the network key.
Netwrok key on the router or normal password I use both throw:

the network password requires to be 40bit or 104 bits depending on your network configuration...

And I am stuck there. If I enable IEEE 802 1x authentication, it hangs, as previously described. Everyone online says to have this box unchecked?

OK, so I went as far as to connect my PC via Netgear adapter to wifi. I locate the network key, W XP is asking for. On PC, it shows as my regular password. So I am stuck on W XP asking for some sort of 40 or 104 bit encryption key?

Newer hardware uses WPA2; XP only recognizes WEP and perhaps WPA.

You've failed to post the model of Netgear adapter you are using as well as the router or Gateway supplying wifi to your home.

Open your router 192.168.1.1 or something similar. Log on, and look for wireless or wireless security tab. The key will be displayed there.

    It's Motorola modem/router.
Atheros 500 4G is wifi adapter

Anywhere I look in modem it only shows my normally used wifi password.

I just checked in adapter network settings and yes, it recognizes only WEP protocol. So, basically, it's either ethernet or forget wifi with modern modems, unless I have an old one at work that still runs WEP protocol? I'll be there Tuesday, I'll see what I can figure.
