Well I haven't really ever heard anything Toshiba but to me this looks like a pretty nice laptop, so I was just wondering what you all thought

Its for my sister so she wouldn't be using for much more than watching movies, listening to music, chatting online, surfing the web and doing school work. She doesn't mind spending this much but I also don't know if its even necessary. Well let me know what you think.

    Thank you!

Looks pretty good to me. Wish we could get it at the equivalent price in Aussie dollars. :D

USD$999.99 3 Business Day Shipping $10.84 (Not available in HI, AK and PR).

They only ship to the 48 mainland contiguous states though. confused :cry :(

Ask for a little more info on the Graphics card.
Video Memory 128MB-319MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.

Ask them how it works. Does it only run at 128megs until under heavy load?
Can you set a minimum allocation like 256megs?

I have an older Toshiba Tecra A7 Duo core (16 months old) and these specs are light years ahead of my Tecra. Hope this helps. Bazza

No problems with my Toshiba. I just have to remember that there is a volume control dial semi-hidden at the front of the lappy.

About battery life, when on AC, I run it without the battery installed. Every so often I attach the battery just to check the charge is still full. Anecdotal evidence is that it prolongs the life of the battery. If there are options on battery capacity, get the highest capacity one if you can afford it, as a standard install.

All computers nowadays load lots of "extra" stuff. Toshiba is no exception, but with that huge hard drive capacity it is hardly worth worrying about.
I've been tweaking mine ever since I got it, to work better. Tweaking is up to each owner, but that is why we are here at MG, to get our toys running leaner and faster. Bazza

Fine so long as she doesn't have a load of legacy peripherals to plug in. If this is the case see them working first.

If she is just starting out in computing make sure that programs and add on stuff you buy is Vista compatible.
