Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 had the hard drive replaced. Now when it boots to a black screen that reads:
    "A disk read error occurred
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

Basically it isn't seeing the hard drive.

Upon calling Toshiba I was told to send it in to get the DMI strings readjusted. I am a computer tech does anyone know if I would be able to do this myself and how? All I am told is to send it in to a Toshiba dealer.

What is the exact model of the hard drive??
As for doing it yourself I wouldn't, If you mess up you will be left with an obsolete hard drive.

    Hard Drive Model
    Seagate Momentus 40GB
    SN: 3KW3FAPH
    Model: ST94811A

Someone has to do it and I just wish I knew how. Is there a special tool or something? No directions anywhere?
