Toshiba Satellite M35X-S329, Win XP, Centrino. Crashed last week[again] and died. I tried the restore disk that came with it 3x to no avail. It would not boot after the restore. It has a history of having the system board[?] [= to desktop motherboard, the repair shop said]
being replaced at least 3 times under the 4 year warranty. I am assuming it is that again.

Does this model have a history of this? If so, does anyone know what might be causing it?
I hate to replace it, cause when it works, it works great. What brand/type board would I need? How do I replace it if I do it myself? I have a smattering of knowledge[replaced drives, power supplies before], but never replaced a board.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

If it's 4 years old and the warranty is gone I would consider a new laptop. A new motherboard may not be worth it is if is an old laptop not to mention it may be hard to find a replacement motherboard.

If you can find a good cheap replacement on ebay or such it may be worth it.

As it looks like your saying it wont post now and you can't restore it? Is the screen blank when you turn it on? Any beeps?

Well here are disassembly guides for Toshiba's hopefully you can ascertain the make and model of the motherboard (mobo) from there and then shop around do a cost/benefit analysis (is it worth it):

Thanks for the info. No, no beeps, no windows logo on startup. it will no longer boot up.
I see the black screen that starts the boot. I have tried the function keys like f8, f10, f3, to see if I can get anything but nothing happens. I can get into the bios menu but don't see anything I can change that will help me out.

If you can get to the bios that's a good sign. It means the pc is posting correctly but it seems like your os could be damaged. When booting tap F8 on your keyboard and then select Safe mode

Do you see any hard drives connected in the BIOS? Is the date set correctly there?

Tried to boot in safe mode. Saw the list of windows files, a brief blue screen[some file is corrupt] Then it went back to the page where I choose what mode to boot up in.

Entered bios. Date is correct. Hard drive is the Toshiba MK80-25GAS-[PM]. Computer is
set to boot to HDD first then cd/dvd. Yes, there is enough memory and it is recognized[1.5G +].

Have also removed the battery and left it out for a few minutes, then reinserted it [seem to remember this was one way to reset the computer]. Result: still gets hung up on the win xp logo page.

So again went back to the Toshiba restore disk, and reloaded it again. Praise God! It
finally worked!!! [this is the 4th time I used the restore disk since it died on me. It has booted to the desktop. I must assume it will now work for me. Thank goodness for
Carbonite -- I had it backup up there.

Thanks to all of you for your help! I can't tell you how many times I recommend this site over all others for computer help. You guys are great!! :highfive.
