    Hi,
I can't boot my Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 laptop in normal mode. I'm running windows XP 2000 Service Pack 2. A lot weird things are happening There are a bunch of bizarre / random symbols that show up before the Windows logo comes up. Then my screen is just blank. There are 9 1/2 inch blue lines (looks like rows of 5 = signs) running across my screen. This was happening in normal mode as well as once in a while blue wavy lines would appear on my screen. My mouse wasn't showing up and my finger print reader was failing to initialize. I used the Toshiba recovery cd and went back to factory settings. That didn't really didn't do anything except now I can only boot up in Safe Mode. I thought it may be malware and went through that whole process earlier and it was suggested I post here.

Sounds like drivers or some other hardware issue. When you restored to factory defaults, any malware or virus should have been erased. see if you can boot into safe mode with networking and make sure you have the most current drivers for you system.

Sorry to hear. You're on the same boat as I. The only difference is I know what's causing it. The discrete graphics chip (the GO 7900GS) is bad (probably overheated). I can get mine to boot on Safe mode. Once you boot to safe mode, uninstall the nvidia drivers and restart. In Windows 7 at least, everything seems to operate without the nvidia drivers but the maximum resolution you can set your display at is 1024x768 (the operating system will detect it as a standard vga adapter). I found out today from Toshiba, that to fix it they would have to replace the motherboard and it would cost around $450 to do so. Which of course is not worth it. I wish it would be as simple as buying the nvidia chip and installing it myself, but it's built-in. My laptop had a pretty good run though, but I'll never pay 2k for a laptop again, because after I bought it about a year later I could get something about 3 times more powerful for only $700, which pissed me off.
