Toshiba satellite shuts down

Hi all,
A friend got a new toshiba satellite series laptop for the holidays it is running Vista. When using the comp it will shut down after just a little while the screen just goes black. I noticed it seems to get very hot just before shutdown. Also it will not come back on for quite a while. It seems to help if you remove the battery and put it back.

Any one have any ideas what could cause this ?

It is not a virus or maleware i'm sure of this.

do the fans seem to be running? have you tried it w/o the battery. i've seen a couple of posts recently about this (although, i think it was a different brand). g/l, sos

 

Did you happen to download the updates (pre-requisite for SP1) that recently came out for Vista.....February 14th was certainly one of them. This is some of the same symptoms my HP laptop and my bosses HP laptop had after those updates automatically installed. Removing the battery cleared it and I was able to reboot, only to find it happened all over again. Get's old real fast having to remove the battery for a few minutes every time you want to boot up.

Permanent solution I came up with was to do a system restore to Feb 13th and set updates to manual.

Yes the fan is running but the air coming out is quite hot.
@Lev i am going to try the system restore now sure hope it's that simple.
