TotalAccess Core problem

    I have done the READ & RUN ME FIRST thread.

    i got slammed pretty hard on 21 Feb with quite a few problems. now that i got most stuff taken care of, i still have a problem with a program that wants to intall itself on start up: TACore.msi. i cannot seem to find it on google or anywhere else.

    i also keep getting popups blocked and when looking in the My Computer history in IE i find these: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Dorian/Local%20Settings/Temp/NDr40.tmp.html....file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Dorian/Local%20Settings/Temp/NDr41.tmp.html and there are a more of those too.

    You need to complete the READ & RUN ME. Step 7 is part of that process when you still need help!


    You are strongly advised to do the following immediately:

    1. Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.

    2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

    3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

    Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

    The reason for this warning is that you show signs of the below trojan:


    It looks like BitDefender has deleted some of the files from this Trojan but you still need to take the above warning steps seriously.

    After attaching your HijackThis log, we can continue.

    Question: Isn't TotalAccess from Earthlink? Are they your ISP?

    thanks for the warning. i guess i forgot to post the original hijack.log. i ran it again to b/c i did a few more things since last post. i am not sure about TA being from earthlink but yes, they are my ISP.

    Any problems related to this software should be addressed to your ISP.

    Your OS & IE versions are way out of date and represent a major security risk. When we finish removing all malware, you MUST get updated.

    Please download win32delfkil.exe
    • Save it to the Desktop.
    • Double click on win32delfkil and install it (Installeren button)
    • A new folder is created on the Desktop: win32delfkil
    • Close all windows!
    • Open the win32delfkil folder
    • Double click on the fix MS-DOS Batch File
    • The program runs and the computer reboots automatically.
    • After the reboot, and back in Windows, search for the file: C:\windelf.txt
    • Attach the windelf.txt.to your next message
    Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

    Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dorian\My Documents\??crosoft.NET\taskmgr.exe

    After killing all the above processes, click Back.
    Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ShellCompatibility - C:\WINDOWS\
    O23 - Service: Network Monitor - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Network Monitor\netmon.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
    Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\Network Monitor <-- the whole folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dorian\My Documents\YSTEM3~1 <-- the whole folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dorian\My Documents\??crosoft.NET <-- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00005.exe <--- delete ALL EXE and DLL files that begin with ibm000

    If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

    Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
    Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

    Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
    Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

    Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    first of all, i want to say thanks and that you are the MAN! yes i know my system is wacked but the guy i bought it from screwed me with a bad v. of XP and now i have to wait till i get my taxes back.

    so, i did all that was posted and things seem to be up and going good. Earthlink is going to have to wait until later as it is 0150 now. here are the new logs. thanks again!

    Okay! That looks much better. You can also fix the below items with HJT. They are not malware but they are not necessary to be loaded each time you boot your PC.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

    If you have a high speed internet connection, you can try downloading and installing the below. It's 125 Mb. It is not SP2 (its SP1a) but it is much better than where you are at now!


    After doing that, if you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    After that, you should work thru the below link (skip step 1 since you cannot do it right now until you have a valid license):
