    Hi there,

This is not a questions about my computer. It is a problem with my wife's. While I was out at work yesterday she was wandering the Internet on her laptop. She headed off for a cup of tea and came back to a lot of rather unsavoury pop-ups and her mouse pointer floating around the screen. Some download boxes were also there. There were some AVG virus warning boxes and she tried to run a virus scan with AVG and then everything froze and it turned itself off.

Now every time we try to turn it back on we ca 2 error boxes about application errors on csogt.exe and Explorer.exe. Once those are cleared it cuts to the desktop picture but there are no bars or buttons. Eventually the screensaver kicks in but no other functions work. Alt-CTRL-DEL brings up a box saying that Task Manager has been disabled by the Administrator.

Entering Safe Mode and using Last Good Config have the same results.

She is running MS XP Home Edition on a Sony Viao with MS Explorer as the Browser and AVG as the virus scanner.

Hopefully someone out there can help out and get us back into the system so we can start to sort it out.

While the pop up boxes and virus warning boxes were on the screen she remembers viruses called Klone and Trojan popping up. Sadly this is made harder by the fact that I was not about when this happened!

Thanks for any help in advance

    Hal

The Task Manager has been locked out by the Administrator apparently and there seems that there is now an admin password in place where there was not one before.

I have tried to reset the admin password with BootDisc and it seemed to tell me that the password was already blank. I have reset it anyway and tried to get into the XP Recovery Console with no success. It tells me that the Admin password is incorrect so I cannot get to the console to see what may be wrong or recovery anything.

    Anyway ideas?

I do not get the option to choose an account. There was only one on the original PC and now it just steps straight from the blue Welcome screen to the Wallpaper without any icons or bars and no ability to do anything.

    Very annoying!

No Admin option in Safe Mode and when I try to log in with the Command Prompt I get a blue screen telling me there has been a problem and then it reboots itself! :(

Whatever this thing is it is extremely good at keeping me out.

I do have an XP disc, however when I try to get to Restoriation Console it asks for the Admin password I do not have and do not seem to be able to reset! :(
