when one deletes partitions and fdisks/reformats... I am assured of a totally clean install when I reinstall xp, right? I had a virus, got it cleaned out, pretty much (thanks for the help), but my computer locked up when trying to do one of the steps near the end (can't remember it was a few months ago). Anyway, now I have to start using my home computer for some work stuff and I'm paranoid, and can't bring myself to use my computer for important, sensitive stuff, so I want a clean start.

there's no way any trojan, keylogger, or anything could survive deleting the partitions and reformatting, is there? Last thing I need is to lose my job cause someone got a login and pass from mycomputer,lol...

thanks in advance for any assistance.

You will be safe with a new install, BUT, security comes after the install. I will let somebody else reccomend security for you, my data is not that important, so im not up on that end. ed

As long as you have a router with a firewall between you and the internet (this could be a DSL router), and you have the windows firewall enabled, and you have some sort of antivirus program running (I would recommend Avira Antivirus, a freewware program) then you should be okay.

thanks for the replies. I do use a router and am using avast and online armor per the suggestions in the malware guide.

I'll wipe this puppy clean and reinstall everything and feel secure.

    thanks.
