Yeah I know Ive posted about trucks a million times but I am getting ina pinch here with my current 15 yr old vehicle. Have my eye on a 2003 access cab 2wheel drive 3.4 v6 with 29k miles on it. Gotta find the specs on it for mileage etc.

Anyone own a tundra with a v6 in it? Just wondering how reliable it would be and if anyone has had any big problems with it.

    You still haven't decided yet????

I had an '01 Tacoma, nowhere near the same thing, but it was a great truck. Really realiable.

Problem isn't really deciding, its finding something withing the budget that I set for myself. I really love the Toyota. I just refuse to pay an arm and a leg for a vehicle.

I have a 2002 Toyota Tundra Access Cab SR-5 with 40,000 miles on it now. The only things I have had done to it is a brake job, replaced the battery and the door seals (warranty). If it matters, I get 15-16 MPG here in San Antonio. I change the oil every 5000 miles and I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

Rides very smooth and tight. The back seat isn't big adult-sized, but it's big enough for my dog (75 lb Golden Retriever). I dropped in a sick stereo system, added a bunch of Dynamat, a pair of nerf bars, bed rails, and a Peragon bed cover, Rhino-lined the bed and tinted the side windows. I haven't replaced the stock tires yet, but will probably need to in the next 10,000 miles or so.

I have no complaints and would strongly recommend this truck. There is an enthusiast website for Tundras and they have great info on it (V8's are in the majority):

Most people who own Tundras rave about them. I guess I did too!

I hear ya. I'll never buy a new vehicle. My wife got a 00 Durango last year, real clean with low miles, and we paid around a third of what it costs new. We both hated the look of the new Durango, so we really wanted the first gen anyway.

But yeah, you're always better off with something a couple of years old. Let someone else take the brunt of all that depreciation.

Cars nowadays last much longer, so mileage really isn't even an issue for me. Ten years ago, 90K was pushing it, and you'd stay away from something like that. Now, it's hard to even find a used vehicle with less that 60K miles.

You really can't go wrong with Toyota. I'm not much for imports, but I know about their reputation.

Now, as for me, nothing but Cherokee or G.Cherokee. That I6 is indestructible! My last Cherokee had over 250K and ran awesome. My current Grand Cherokee has 150K and still feels like it's new. I'm keeping this one forever. Plus the I6 is so easy to work on. I don't think I'll ever own anything that isn't a Grand Cherokee.

But you need a pickup, so that doesn't help much.
