TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen - lanessrv.dll

G-day geeks. Here is the gist of what is happening.

AntiVir has detected 'TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen' in the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanessrv.dll

Also, some programs cause an error when you try to launch them: "The application failed to initialize properly (0cx0000034). Click okay to terminate the application."

I don't know what my friend got in to, but it's driving me, the supposed geek, mad trying to remove it without resorting to reformatting and reinstalling.

I looked throught the other posts about the same virus, but each had a different 'custom' solution, so I figured I'd better ask than try guessing...

PS The latest Java would not install after removing all of the older versions, but I just continued on with the instructions and figured it could be reinstalled after this was resolved.
