I use a logitech cordless trackball, which has worked well for a long time. I inadvertently used a program called Advanced System Optimizer, which ultimately blue screened me, and I've spent the weekend trying to undo the damage.

Tho my system says the track ball is OK, it won't work at all. At times I've gotten an error saying the system doesn't recognize the 'unknown' device. Ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Ray first off i think you should maybe tell people your OS what steps you have taken so far to fix the problem you had in the first place, and by the sound of it i think you need to follow the instructions in this link READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and then repost into the malware dept because it sounds as though your still infected, also when you do repost please be patient as the malware fighters are really busy people !

    Good Luck ! ;)

Ooops. Vista Home Premium. However, much to my chagrin, seems to be the trackball suddenly gone bad. My other one works fine. Liked your writeup re Malware, & will use.
    Problem solved.
One other note. When I've gotten referred to a prog download, I've found it confusing to find the right one. It takes investigation to get to the one intended.
