    Hi Geeks,
I have tracking cookies that keep reappearing, I clean them away and they return the next time I start the computer.
    .
I have completed the entire "Malware removal" section but they just reappeared.
    .
Any help would be great, I'm sitting at the computer now and ready to follow your instructions.

Thanks for getting back to me.
    .
I have read item 11 as you suggested.
    .
My problem is that after they have been cleared away (by CC cleaner every time I shut down) I am reinfected the next time I start up.
    .
So wouldnt that indicate that there is some program running somewhere that loads them back on.
    .
If that is the case I dont want it on my system and any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

First let me repeat.... they are not infections. Cookies appear whenever you or any other user accounts on the PC use a browser to connect to the internet. All user accounts will have cookies. If you do not want cookies there are two solutions
    1. Disconnect your PC from the internet. Obviously not an acceptable solution.
    2. Set your browser and firewall to not allow any cookies at all. However if you do this you are not going to enjoy things when you surf as you will run into all kinds of problems.
Now if you are not talking about cookies being seen in your browser folders but are rather talking about cookies seen in the System Volume Information folder then you cannot simply clean them up. They are in System Restore if found in that folder and you have to disable System Restore to remove them. But again, you don't need to since they are not problems.

    Chaslang,
I never used to have them, when I go to websites I notice in the grey bar at the bottom of my screen as well as usual stuff i see the tracking names pop up just before the website opens.
    .
I dont think these are cookies that I get from my bank for example.
    .
but as it seems you dont think they are important how do i stop agv resident shield from alarming evertime they decide to start themselves.
    .
I am the only user on this machine.
    .
I am sorry but I dont know what your last paragraph means, I dont know where or what "browser folders" "System Volume Information folder" or "System Restore folder" are, but you suggest I turn them off

    Hi

To surf the internet cookies are and have always been a part of the internet, but likely now as many applications seem to want to highlight cookies as an issue ( which as Chas mentions they are not ), you are likely to be noticing them more now.

As for AVG try this open AVg and click Tools > Scans > and turn off Scan for tracking Cookies.

as for Chas's last paragraph, what antivirus scans do is to scan the System Volume Information folder, which is basically your System restore points.. which is a snapshot of your PC so that in the event of a problem you can restore pack to a point in the past your PC was working ok, however things like cookies that are saved in the Temporary Internet folder are saved, so thus scanned by the antivirus (AV), downside is AVs cannot remove anyting from the Sys Vol Files, so they will on a scan always show up.

Yes you can turn off Sytem restore to flush all the Restore Points which will remove any flagged items in those areas, then turn back on System Restore so that your covered again in case of a software issue, however cookies will then get stored back when a new System Restore point is saved again.

Personally dont take too much stock in cookies being flagged as they are as mentioned no issue, can use something like CCleaner to clean up the Temp Internet folder which will delete cookies and other temp junk files.

    Hi Halo,
    Thanks for your reply.
    .
On the issue of restore points, when all this started I tried to restore but all the points to restore to had been erased.
    .
As well my clock in the bottom right corner has changed to 24 hours time, and there isnt any option to change it back.
    .
I am only concerned because of the little strange things that are happening since these tracking cookies arrived.

Then there also will not be any detections of any problems in the System Volume Information folder since you have no restore points. You should just attach a log from AVG that shows EXACTLY what it is finding. I'm starting to think it is not cookies but rather just a bug in AVG that detects active-x killbit settings installed by programs like Spyware Blaster and Spybot.

Also you should attach the 4 logs requested in the READ & RUN ME since you say you have run it. You should not be posting here for help without having attached those logs as requested in the instructions.

You can fix your clock from Control Panel ->Regional and Language Options and then on the Regional Options tab click the Customize button then on the next form click the Time tab. Then change the Time format to what you want. It explains there what the lower case and upper case letters will do. Upper case H is giving you 24 hour clock settings.

Tracking cookies have always been on your PC if you have been using browsers to surf.

Yes I see them and it they are cookies not active-x settings that I was mentioning. You should either disable AVG from scanning for cookies and also disable the realtime shield from blocking cookies (which is what that report appears to be) or you should just ignore them because as we have now stated multiple times, cookies are not problems.
