My anti-virus or spyware program finds tracking cookies and I delete them but they keep coming back. When they are there, my computer makes a loud biting sound after it finishes loading. The longer I go before deleting the cookies, the more new ones load. Also, my computer is running a lot slower than it previously did. I have tried to research and eliminate all un-neccessary start-up programs. I've been through the "Read & Run Me First" section and I am attaching the log files. Since you can only post 3 files, I have placed them in a Zip file (which I hope I did correctly.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Cookies are not problems and they are normal to have on your PC. You need to read step 11 of the below sticky thread:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

A quick look at your logs does not show any real malware problems. Is your only problem that you believe your system is running slower?

Is your copy of Spy Sweeper a paid version or a free trial version? What version is it and when did you install it? I bet it was fairly recent and I'm also guessing your speed problems started afterwards.

Spy Sweeper 5.2--it is a paid version. I have stopped it from loading at start-up. You're right--it really slows things down. But, my computer is still running slow without it. One of the issues with the particular cookies is that my computer makes a biting or crunching sound after it loads with the cookies still there that are being recognized as spyware. I don't know if this is just my anti-virus program PC-cillian or SpySubtract because it recognizes the cookies as spyware or what.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my logs and letting me know you don't see any real malware problems. It makes me feel a lot better to know that.

Tracking cookies are normal and your computer should have them if you surf the net. For the most part, you never have a need to remove them and removing them continually will make your surfing much more annoying.

The thought that they are any sort of Spyware/malware or any other such “ware” thing is misinformation.

They also have zero to do with computer speed.

Do yourself a favor and configure your anti-spyware app to ignore cookies. You will be happier. ;)

SpySweeper 5.2 has a bug with an interaction with Sun Java. Sometimes doing the below will help speed things up.

Use HijackThis to fix the below BHO:

    O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\bin\ssv.dll

Did that help? If not, uninstall Spy Sweeper. Stopping it from loading at startup is not the same as uninstalling it. Somethings will still run unless you uninstall it. You should not be using SpySubtract and Spy Sweeper. They can conflict and this can cause excess use of system resource which will also slow things down (much like having more than one antivirus application).

As Corporal Punishment stated, disable the ability of your scanners from looking at cookies it possible. Scanning for them is a waste of time and too many tools scare you into believing they are problems when they are not. They do this because it make them look like they are finding so many things wrong and they fix them. First as stated already, they are not problems. Second you could easily just remove them yourself without using any special tools. But again that is a waste of time.
