    Hi Guys,

Really didn't expect to be back for more help so soon, but I appear to have a problem with the pc again.

Last few times I've run Ad-Aware 2007, it just hangs about a third of the way through. It always gets stuck whilst scanning C:\System Volume Information\tracking.log
Once it hangs on this I cannot stop the scan or close Ad-Aware. I have to end the task using Task Manager.

AVG Anti Spyware also hangs and can only be closed with Task Manager.

Apart from these programmes, everything else on the machine appears ok, although maybe a bit slow.

The actual 'tracking.log' file cannot be opened with notepad, (notepad hangs), renamed, moved, deleted. Can't look at it's properties or use right click scans with Super Antispyware, Malwarebytes or anything else. In fact right clicking and selecting properties causes the task bar to stop working & disappear.

I've followed once again all the steps in the malware removal guide and although all scans reported no problems, Ad-Aware & AVG still hang.

I can post all the logs if necessary.

What's going on? All help much appreciated as always.

    Cheers,
    Lee

... in fact, as I've just discovered, it looks like the only way I am going to be able to shut down the machine is by pulling the plug.

You are not having malware problems. Sounds more like you have file system problems or disk error problems which could be preventing the full scans. I suggest that you try doing the below:

    • First disable System Restore.
    • Then try running your scans and see if they complete.
    • If they do not complete, then you should renable System Restore post in the Software Forum where you should inquire about perform disk error checking and file system checking.
