I've managed to upload from a stick to my computer, but I can't seem to move things from my PC to the USB stick. What am I doing wrong?

    Running Vista, Word2010.

Lexar Jumpdrive Secure 11 Plus Stick 8 GB.

Did I get the wrong one?

How are you attempting to move them?

Some are photos and some videos. I open the folder where they are and that's as far as I get. Right clicking doesn't help. I can get all of the photos in the file to upload, but I can't single out a specific one.

I usually open two explorer windows. One is open to the contents of the USB stick and the other is opened to the directory with files I want to re-locate.
I pick a file, hold down the right mouse button and drag the file into the explorer window of the USB stick. I lift the mouse button and usually select copy here. I do that just in case the computer hiccups during the move. After I am positive the file is copied to the USB stick, I then erase it from my computer.

Thanks Plodr, I'll give a shot.
I'll be back to let you know if it works.

Sorry, didn't work. I've given up.

I have to get things on USB for a lawyer but I might have to upload them to an on-line site and he can view them from there. I can print photos but not videos.

I'm sorry for not understanding your reply, please try to do it again in English. Thank you.

I believe I know who that was, although I didn't see the post. His first language isn't English.

I have been hacked on email and on several sites where he has changed my password. Major Geeks knows it was done twice because I contacted Jim for a new password. All I can give MG to help is who his internet server company is and a link to where they can learn about him. If one of the Major Geeks want to PM me, I'll give them the information.

Meanwhile, I desperately need to download things from my computer onto the USB stick. I don't know why I can't do it after Plodr explained how. If I can download them back onto my camera, I'll try. If not, I'll have to carry my computer down to the lawyer's office tomorrow.

This man is a damned nuisance to everyone who knows him. Even his children have restraining orders against him.

    Hello,
These drives have an encrypted and non-encrypted partition on them. When you go into disk management with the drive connected what does it say about those partitions and their sizes? There is also software used that sets up the partitions in the Windows folder on the drive but it does not yet work for 64bit versions.

    See here for more info.

Thanks for trying to help and for the link. Nothing on there looks vaguely familiar to what I see when I insert the USB.

I'm totally lost. The program is installed (did so when I first inserted the stick) but I can't find it when I search my computer. I have to put the USB stick in but I get very few instructions I can understand. I don't know geek talk, and that's who they are addressing. It was a waste of $17.

When the drive is connected, do you see what is in Disk Management?

  13. Lavender

    Lavender Master Sergeant

It doesn't show me Disk Management. I get Auto Play.

I don't want to encrypt the files, I have to have my lawyer open them on his computer.

Right click on my computer and select manage then disk management. You should see your flash drive connected with a drive letter.

When the Disk Management Window is up and active, Press the Alt + Print Scrn keys. This should save the image in your clipboard. Then open Paint and select Edit>Paste. Save the file as a jpg and attach it to your next post.

I give up. I can't find Computer. Comodo warns against several links, marking them dangerous. All that seems to come up in your links are adverts.

I feel that I no longer have control of my computer.

I got in but Alt + Print Scan doesn't do anything.

I'm convinced someone has messed with this computer despite the security programs I have in place and the scans I run.

You will not see anything. You have to open Microsoft Paint after you press the Alt + Print scrn keys at the same time. Then select in the menu bar of Paint, Edit>paste.

I wish I knew a fraction of what you know.

    Okay, trying to attach.

    How?

  21. tgell

Make sure when you reply at the bottom of the screen to select "go advanced" instead of "post quick reply". Then click the paper clip at the top next to the smiley face. Another window will appear and then press the browse button. Another window will appear and then browse to your file. Click the open button after selecting your file and then press the upload button. If it successful, you will see your file attached in the window. Then press close window at the botton of the window. Then press the submit reply button.

Edit: If I did not explain it well enough, here is a video.

Your Lexar is the k: drive. Does your lawyer or anybody that will use the key have a Mac computer?

  24. Lavender

    Lavender Master Sergeant

I don't know what system he uses. Probably not a Mac in a large company. (Oops! Sorry Mac users.)

    Hi,

To go back to plodr's instructions.

You open up the folder with your photos and videos and leave the window open. Then you go to Computer and double click the K: drive to open up another window.

Now if you click on a video and hold the mouse button down and drag it into the K: window what happens? An error or just nothing at all?

Before we do this, I just wanted to be sure but I do not think there is one on this drive. Is there a small switch on the flash drive. Sometimes these are used to write protect the flash drive.

    Okay,
In disk management, scroll down until you see the K: drive. Make sure it is the K: drive you are doing this to because we do not want to delete or format your C: drive. To the right of the box that says K:, (where it gives the size and Fat32 and size or roughly 7GB) left click it to highlight the area. There should now be diagonal lines in the box. Then right click this same area and select Format. You want to format the partition as NTFS. In the drop down box under file system, you should be able to select NTFS. Is there an option to do this? Leave quick format checked. Then click next. After it formats it another window will come up and then you can click finish. First disconnect the flash drive, then reconnect. Now try to copy files over to the drive.

Thanks sach2: Maybe you can take over as I am leaving for awhile. See if you agree about reformatting to NTFS.

EEk! I have a D drive I dare not want to lose. I'm hoping it will still be there when I do this.

Okay, D still intact. Will try to transfer but I admit I'm lost.

Thanks for all your help. Enjoy your break.

I will be leaving for awhile. If you are not comfortable doing this, do not. Sach2 is very good at solving these things. Please follow his last post.

    Thanks.

    Hey tgell,

I'm thinking the Lexar software is creating a virtual partition which is drive K:. Windows recognizes drive F: as the removable device and is loading up like an OS and then the software is taking over and creating drive K:.

Lavender do try my post and notice if there is any type of error signal. I want to make sure you are trying to copy your files to drive K: rather than drive F:.

    Hey sach2.

I think you are right. I did notice that removable drive but I thought it might be some SD card reader. I have a HP external drive that put a virtual drive on my computer. I eventually reformatted the drive and disabled the virtual drive in device manager because it was in firmware and I could not get rid of it.

    Thank you both.

Tgell you are amazing. A million thanks. It worked. Now I won't have to carry my computer to the lawyer tomorrow. It wouldn't have been so bad if I'd had a laptop.

I know I'm a dunce at anything technical and I'm sorry to say I always turn to MG for help. You guys have dug me out of some weird places.

Long may you all be around because I know I'll be back soon with another stupid question.

    Love to you all,

With the help Tgell gave me, and the patience he had to put up with my lack of knowledge, I can present proof of threats against my life without hauling my PC around town.

Couldn't have done it without you.

This site and you guys are amazing.

I am glad you got it working! Amazing? I don't think so. I think that title should go to sach2 after seeing quite a few of his posts.

If you are are being hacked, you might want to have your computer checked over in the Malware forum if you have not already done so. If you are using a router to connect to the internet, you might also want to be sure it is properly secured.

All you guys are amazing, but your patience with me - when I couldn't even find simple things on my computer - was remarkable. I fully expected you to lose your temper because I was so dumb, but you kept your cool. A terrific tribute to the help found on this site.

I'm using a modem to connect to the Internet so I'm not sure if that is a router or not. I do know the hacker uses the same Internet provider and they are keeping a close eye on my account and email through them.

I run scans daily with IObit Pro, Comodo, and Advanced Spyware Remover. A couple of days ago, I installed Sophos to check for rootkits. Nothing shows up on any of them. I run CCleaner several times a day if I'm on line for any length of time. If you think I should run different programs, please let me know. I will download only from MG because I feel safe and you've never let me down. You are the only site I trust 100%.

When I downloaded Sophos, a malware checker popped up. I ran it but it wouldn't give me any information unless I paid to download the program. I felt it was wrong for them not to say so up front so I deleted it.

It is unfortunate that the person I'm up against has the means to buy the best items available and has the knowledge to use them. Police won't believe he can tap into phones, but we've heard him coughing and his wife calling out in the background. It's one of the things my lawyer will have to take up with them. The man is also very familiar with the court system but I've never been involved before. It's quite a learning experience.

When this is settled, I will be going public on the Net and in newspapers. I'll PM you a link where you can read all about it. Most people tell me it's like a movie script--it's that unbelievable.

I'm so glad MG is around because I know I can get help here. You are sorely needed by someone as technically dumb as I am.

    Kudos,

    Lavender
