    I have an older system with XP Home SP3 and yesterday on boot up, just after the beep, Windows logo came up momentarily then reverted to a red screen stating that the computer had the Trend Chipaway virus. Remembering this from a few years back, I checked to see that the virus checker in the BIOS was not selected and rebooted but back to the same loop, post beep, windows logo and red screen.

    Obviously, I now cannot access the system as long as I am stuck in this loop.

    Does anybody have any workarounds or advice?

    Regards

    Have you reset the CMOS using either the Jumper moving jumper from 1and 2 to 3and4 momentarily then return to 1and2. Usually the cmos reset junper is close to mobo battery, If unsure remove the battery for 5 minutes and press the start button several times to discharge any remaining power. REMOVE POWER SUPPLY from wall socket before attempting this and also ground yourself to remove any static from your body. Failing this and you really have a virus get a copy of 'Avast BART Edition place in your Rom and boot and follow on-screen instructions.

    Toke;

    Many thanks for your response, I had reset the BIOS with no effect but Bart did the trick.

    Thank you kindly for responding.
