Ok, I have been having some infestation issues
on my pc. I was following a lot of instructions
trying to get rid of everything.

I come up on instructions that ask I use
trendmicro's Housecall. But, before I do
it says to disable system restore. I did.
I figured it was restoring all the bad things
    I kept deleting every day.

While running Housecall I got an error when
it was going to "Clean" my computer. It
caused my browser to shut down. Now my
XP user name has disappeared and all my files are
gone. When I try to browse into the folder in the
documents and settings it says access denied.
I can't figure it out. I can live without the user name.
And it seems to have actually helped iliminate the
infection, but I need my work files back.

Is there anything I can do to achieve this?

How are you logging in to Windows at this time?
Are you saying it deleted your user account?
    ----------------------------------

Yes, sorry. It killed the user account I was on.
I am willing to reinstall windows and all as long
as I can find the files that were on my desktop.

I tried logging on with my name and password
by disabling the welcome screen. It let me log
on. But when I browsed the docs and sets folder
it showed two folders there for the logon name
    like this:

    memmer
    memmer.BAYBEE

The logon name is "memmer" and Baybee is the name
of my computer. When I try to open the memmer
folder it says access denied. And the little box info
popup thing says "Folder is empty"
    Dunno what to try anymore.

Okay, I understand what your saying now, if you change it to use the Welcome Screen does it show your username "memmer"? If not what does it show? If it does, try to login, what does it do?

Your files should be there, we just may have to
take control of the folder they are currently in.
    ----------------------------------

    I re-enabled the Welcome screen.
It doesn't show memmer at all.
It shows the Guest and Ama accounts
that were there previous to the error
and it shows the new one I created to
    log on with administrator rights.
Memmer is also not visible when I
go into control panel to change the
    logon screen.

Isn't there a way to access a much more
capable "User" menu. I remember seeing
it before where you define access rights
and all that fun stuff. Is that available?

If you will post this issue in the Software Forum, once you get your user account resolved if needed you can come back here for further cleaning.

    Thank you.

OK, So, here I am. Anyone have a clue?
Thank you ahead of time for any ideas.

Try the steps in the MS link below to gain access to the Owner folder as bjgarrick suggested.

Thank you! It worked. I got some errors
but I can now access my files.

Is there perhaps a way to resurrect the
logon name? Or maybe a way to transfer
everything over to another logon name?

See if this thread helps you, http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=96913

I am not sure why your "memmer" account is not available. My knowledge of working with or troubleshooting user accounts is limited. If the link doesn't help, wait for some other ideas.
