I was surfing the net when my AVG warned me of an infection. I quickly unhooked my computer from the internet, shut down my firefox then ran AVG. It found virtumond, said it removed it. I ran Spybot, it found virtumond and also said it removed it. I used a different comp and googled virtumond, found this site http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-vundo-virtumonde, i followed the first set of instructions. Felt like the comp was clean, shut it down went to bed. Next day started up the comp. Wanted to run Malwarebytes again to make sure everything was clean. Ran rkill, reinstalled Malwarebytes, clicked on upload, during install of updates comp restarts. Comp then goes to safemode screen. Try all options ends up back at safe mode screen everytime. Have to hold in power button to shut off comp. Wait a few mins, turn comp back on same thing.

as it stands, xp will not boot up, loops to the safe mode screen no matter which option i choose, safe mode, last known config etc. won't start in safe mode or any other mode.

any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I'm a little curious as to why you were following instructions at bleepingcomputer and then posted here after you ran into problems after following their instructions. I'm not saying they caused you any problems, but it just seems strange you would start there but not post in their forums for help. Like Major Geeks, they are a very good, reputable website with good forums.

If you cannot bootup into either safe mode, nor in normal mode, you will have to try the below:

    You're welcome.
Please do not do this in the future. Resouces like ours and BPC's are very limited on the internet and cross posting to multiple forums is deeply frowned upon since it ties up resources in multiple locations.
