    Hello from the UK

My nephew ask me to look at his virus infected laptop, I followed your read me first instruction and all appears to fine.

Could you please have a look at the logs to see if all is OK.

    Thanks

Looks good to me. The only thing that stands out is this:
C:\ProgramData\2E255 --> do you know what this is?

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi Tim,
    C:\ProgramData\2E255 -->contains a shockwave Flash Object (.swf)

I have already done steps 5 and 6 in the read me first Vista Cleaning Procedure; also I moved ComboFix.exe off the desktop.

I can just reverse the steps?

Thanks for your help it is really appreciated.

The script to uninstall ComboFix only works if it is on the desktop as it should be. Let me know if you have an issue removing it.

    O dear,
Looks like I jumped the Gun!

When i moved ComboFix.exe I cleaned up and deleted some files from the desktop, the recycle bin is now empty.

I don't have the script file to uninstall comboFix, is there a work round for this so I can reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults?

I must have some how missed the final step stage in the Vista Cleaning Procedure.

I am not following you. Where is ComboFix? Have you deleted it outright? To hide system files, go to the control panel, folder options, view and check hide system files and folders.

Sorry not very good at this message board stuff.

Combofix.exe is now in a folder in the root of C:

In my last post I was referring to combofix uninstalling and resetting hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defauts.

    Hi TimW

Bit the bullet and went for the uninstall of combofix as your 1st post instructions.

Good news, got the ComboFix uninstalled window, so all good.

So all I need to do now is follow the remainder of the final steps procedure,
which seems to missing or did I miss that step in your Vista Cleaning read me.

Many Many Thank for all your time, help and effort.

    Dave
