A couple days ago this Trojan took over my computer. We finally got AVG to run and healed it before it was able to load on startup. So I googled Trojan Crypt and got this forum. I read the Read Me and did all the steps except MGtools wouldn't install. I wasn't sure if I was suppose to do the Toggle System Restore yet so I didn't do that either. I do know AVG found 3 files in the system restore but couldn't remove them. I'm attaching my logs as recommended. Thanks!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I see no reason in your logs for why MGtools would not run. Please shutdown AVG and then try running it again. Then attach the C:\MGlogs.zip file. We need this to continue.

Also, are you still having any problems?

I did have AVG turned off as recommended. When I clicked to install a screen would flash and that was it. I tried several times then put it on the desktop and it still did the flash only.

No I'm not having anymore problems. Just wanted it completely out.

Does the C:\MGtools folder exist? If yes, do the below.

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

    No error messages.

Then did they popup and show logs? If so, attach the c:\MGlogs.zip file.

Other than what has already been removed, you are in pretty good shape. Just do the below.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Then if you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
