trojan? disables anti-virus

i have followed this site's instructions about disabling system restore, running online scans and cleaning in safe mode to no luck...please help...

i seem to have some sort of trojan/virus that disables mcafee virus scan and will not allow a virus scan to be run.

mcafee is frequently disabled. when i try to run the eicar to test in mcafee after it has been disabled (by the trojan?), i get a fake confirmation (unlike the confirmation when you test while virus scan is enabled).

when i try to run a mcafee virus scan it freezes/hangs after searching 2500 or so files. this has been tried dozens of times with the same result. i have tried deleting the files (first they were .idx files, now they are .doc files) but it just hangs on a new file each time you delete one.

i have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling mcafee - same results. i tried uninstalling mcafee and installing ez armor - the ez armor virus program would not install properly - the engine would not load (several uninstall/install attempts produced same result).

on the online scan - trend and panda found nothing.

i ran ccleaner, microsoft anti-spy, spybot in safe mode - they didn't find anything. i ran adaware in safe mode, but it hung and didn't finish the scan.

laptop - xp service pack 2, 2.8 ghz, 1.2 gb ram, mcafee, zone alarm (free)

any help/guidance would be appreciated. thank you very much.

i've posted the spy sweeper log and a new hijack log. the hijack log was run after mcafee had been disabled by whatever is disabling it, so i don't know if that will provide any clues. mcafee was disabled about two-thirds through the spy sweeper search.

i would gladly switch to another anti-virus program - and have tried - but avast and ez armor won't load the engines or definitions in the computer's current state.

sorry about that - should have told you i was going to run the other scan separately - it took over 3 hours and nothing (attached). will run the error check now.
