I tried the same steps for Trojan.FakeVir in WINDOWS\system32\vcehaeb.dll on the previous case by downloading and running the Smitfix.cmd file. The problem is that my computer keeps locking up after I hit a key to continue to run the file for step 2 to clean the Registry.

I also have a virus as file V7V.exe named malformed archive that I'm unable to clean with McAfee Antivirus. I keep all antivirus and spyware (Ad-Aware and Spybot) software up-to-date. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with these issues.

    Thanks

    Hi

Run through as much of this as possible, hopefully none of the steps will lock up your PC, attach the logs requested and one of our malware guys will no doubt know a different way to remove this,

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Thank you for your reply. I did follow the tutorial steps and after downloading/installing and scanning my computer with counterspy I haven't seen any of the problems that was encountered with the trojan and virus. I looked for the vcehaeb.dll file that was located in the Windows\system32 directory and could not find it. The error messages that I was receiving, I'm no longer receiving. If you believe that I may still be infected please advise and I will do what needs to be done to rectify the situation. Here is what I saved in notepad as txt file on my desktop just FYI:

You should complete all the other steps that Halo gave to you and attach ALL the requested logs afterwards. Make sure you follow the directions for installing and running HijackThis because you have it wrong now.
