    Hi

I am running on Windows XP and am a novice user!
I have had a problem for over a month now. Kept getting a false security notice which said my computer was infected. When I hit protect it took me to a site which was to purchase 2 antivirus programs. Both my task manager and system restore were disabled.

I have done "read me run me first" and removed quite a few Trojans.
Computer is running but not quite right.

    Problems
    1. Load Dll -> Hook Load Failed! -have to hit OK to continue
    2. Pages not opening properly -either "overlapped images", slow to open, slow to close or just not responding
    3. On every shutdown 2 instances of iexplore.exe not ending -I have to hit end continually and wait for shutdown

Not sure if I am still infected or perhaps I have deleted something I shouldn't have.
    Hope you can help.

Actually you look pretty good...let's just do this:

Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

You can use windows explorer to find and delete:
    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Kathy\Application Data\"
    020000~1.man Oct 6 2008 359 "0200000078fd641cP.manifest"
    020000~2.man Oct 6 2008 13 "0200000078fd641cC.manifest"
    020000~3.man Oct 6 2008 11 "0200000078fd641cO.manifest"
    020000~4.man Oct 6 2008 11 "0200000078fd641cS.manifest"
    024cb0~1.man Oct 6 2008 7 "0200000078fd641cR.manifest"

Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the "Input script here:"
    part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.
