    Hi,

    I've run through the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" guide, logs are attached below.

    Initial symptoms were slowing of data transfer of all computers and handheld devices on my home network. Transfer rates slowed to 30kb/sec or so. Eventually noticed that when my wife's computer was unplugged, all other devices immediately resumed full speed data connection. We could easily turn the problem on/off by plugging/unplugging her computer to the network.

    She uses Stopzilla, which identified a virus: Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT. When removed, the virus reappeared on subsequent scans.

    Ran MS MRT, identified virus as TrojanDownloader:Win32/Cutwail.BE. It failed to remove the threat.

    Located these forums, ran the run and read me first. I was not sure about the disk emulation software -- I don't think I have any so I proceeded on. Ran RogueKiller, but was not sure whether to delete the 4 identified threats or not. Went ahead and deleted, then proceeded with the rest of instructions. Other steps completed as requested.

    Initial response was very positive. Watched a couple of test videos on her computer using Youtube. Download speeds had returned to normal.

    The next morning, the initial symptoms had reappeared, with us able to turn the problem on/off by removing her computer from the network. Logged onto another computer to post here, as she cannot even load these forums.

    I think that's all the background. Thanks in advance for the help!

    /salute

    Hi,

    To preserve marital bliss in the household, I had to take a stab at it based on some of the previous posts. Thanks to all your great directions, things look like they worked pretty good.

    I ran FRST64 with the list and log attached. If you have any suggestions for additional things to do, I would sure appreciate it.

    Thank you so much for volunteering to provide this service. It's wonderful!

    Best regards,
    Pvt. Newbie

    We need to replace a file.

    Please download combofix to your desktop. Do NOT double click it to run it. Make sure your antivirus is disabled.

    Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Fcopy::
    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-s..s-servicecontroller_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_2b54b20ee6fa07b1\services.exe | C:\Windows\System32\services.exe
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

    Now run FRST again the same way you did in post # 6. Attach the logs. Let me know how things are running.
