I use WIndows XP, and have had AOL (not my ISP, I use Bellsouth DSL) send out thousands of e-mails (this has happened twice, about 6 months aoart). No one has the password to that account (it was not my main AOL account). I now use a firewall (router and Zone ALarm). My AV is up to date, and I am working on my Hijack-This log now.

I have been unable to find or get rid of what caused my computer to send out those e-mails.

I downloaded and used two trojan detection programs.
    1. Anti_Trojan Shield
    2. Trojan Remover

    1. ATS (free version, I have not bought it yet):
Found several "backdoor" programs on my computer. However, several of them were race tracks that I use for Nascar 2003. So I find it a bit suspicious that they were trojans (I race with a bunch of people, and they all downloaded the same tracks as I did).
-It would not let me remove them because it was the trial version of the software.

    2. TR
I ran this software, and it did not find any trojans at all.

So which one shoudl I believe? If I trust ATS, then I have to buy it to get rid of something that another program says is safe.

Any ideas? Is there a better program that I can use?

If what tux2460 has recommend does not help you resolve your problem, I would suggest you consider running thru are standard cleanup process which I include below.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

The READ ME FIRST also has a section called Alternative Scans which could be of use. One of the ones mentioned by tux is there too.
