 am using Microsoft onecare and windows defender. I somehow googled to a website that had the name Traffic Vortal. The website started to download a program which your program asked if I wanted to accept of block the download. I chose to block it.

Somehow something happened which sends me to various websites. One prgram told me that I was infected by a virus called "TROJAN SPM/LX" and do I want to download a program called WINANTIVIRUS 2006 PRO" which I did not do.

Windows defender keeps poping up telling me a program "winsoftware.winantivirus" is a problem that it found and I keep asking that the file be deleted.

I am now constantly being thrown to websites that try to sell me win antivirus and win antispyware products which I suspect are all scams.

I have run Windows onecare and defender and they do not seem to find a proplem.

I found a few websites that offer tips on how to remove this and I have downloaded Four programs on my computer "KILLBOX", "CCLEANER" and "WINPATROL" and "HIJACKTHIS" but the procedures appear to be to advanced for me to follow.

How can I get rid of this problem in a way that a non tech person can follow.

A lot of people are getting this problem and we all await a lifesaver.

Your best option is to follow our guide to start you off on the removals process,

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
