    Hi, several days ago my computer has infected. I realized this when seeing that Microsoft Security Essentials was disabled and I received error code: 0x80070424 when I tried to enable it.

    I have used various software programs to disinfect my pc but nothing changes. My only achieve is that I have recovered the BITS service. The only possible solution I see now is to ask here to solve the problem. I have attached FRST64 reports. Help me please :-o

    Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.

    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.

    Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
    Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
    The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
    Please attach this to your next message. (See how to attach)

    Now boot into normal Windows can continue with the below.

    Running MGTools.

    You never disabled Spybot as instructed.

    Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\ProgramData\kfixhirjgoeykhw

    Now use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Messenger Plus! 5

    Tell me what issues you are still having, if any.

    I'm sorry, I forgot spybot! Should I repeat any test?

    Symptoms after deleting what you tell me are still the same, Microsoft Security Essentials is disabled and I receive the error code 0x80070424 when I try to enable it.

    There are news on the issue. Scanning the computer again in safe mode with Microsoft Safety Scanner wasn't detected sirefef.B, everything is OK but the problem with Microsoft Security Essentials still remains and Windows 7 doesn't seem to check for updates automatically :confused

    Try uninstalling MSE and after a reboot, re-install it.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

  9. intoxicao

    intoxicao Private E-2

    I have re-installed MSE and the problem with it is solved, thank you very much!

    Still seems that Windows 7 doesn't check for updates. And I have another question. Now I can see two folders with the same name "program files", one of them is hidden and is protected, I don't have access to his content. I didn't realise of this issue before, is everything alright with it?

    I've tried many times but all I get is that. Could I do the same test as I did the first time using MGtools.exe? Is it the same?

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

    When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

    Bad news, I wasn't sure but I've found that there are still problems. I don't know how it could happen but my computer has been infected by the virus Live Security Platinum plus another one named PUM.Disabled.SecurityCenter. The same code error on Security Essentials was back. I've reinstalled it and the problem was solved but now I've found that the same error code is on the firewall! I've tried to start the service but shows me an error too...what should I do now? I won't forget 0x80070424 in my entire life!:-D

    Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan. There will be two options to choose from. One if you do not have your Windows 7 boot DVD and another when you have your DVD.

    For x32 (x86) bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
    For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

    Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

    Option1: Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.

    Option2: Enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:

    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.

    On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
      Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

    Extract bfe.reg to your desktop.
    Double-click bfe.reg and allow it to merge into the registry. If you get a "successfully merged into registry" type of message, reboot your PC and see if you can turn on BFE, or if it is already turned on.

    You can run these commands from the command prompt.

    • net start bfe
    • sc qc bfe

    bfe.reg

    Now re-run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Attach the new MGLogs.zip

    Please download ComboFix to your desktop. Turn off any AV software you have.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop

    but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus,

    antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.

    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the

    way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    ClearJavaCache::
    KILLALL::
    File::
    C:\Users\x\AppData\Local\Temp\ch8l0.exe
    C:\Users\x\AppData\Local\Temp\glom0_og.exe
    C:\ProgramData\zcmlbeie.exe

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder\C:^Users^x^AppData^Roaming^Microsoft^Windows^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^ch8l0.exe.lnk]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder\C:^Users^x^AppData^Roaming^Microsoft^Windows^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^ctfmon.lnk]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Update]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\zcmlbeielthracw]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your

    Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:
    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Note: If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion".
    Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

    Download the below to your dektop.

    BITS.reg

    • Now please click Start, and type regedit into the search box.
    • You should see a regedit.exe and icon appear in the Programs area of the Start Menu.
    • Right click on regedit.exe and select Run As Administrator
    • Then in the Registry Editor menu click File and select Import.
    • Navigate to the BITS.reg file saved to your Desktop and double click it. Allow it to be added to the registry.

    Reboot.

    Delete the BFE.reg file that exists on your desktop. Download this one to the same location.
    BFE.reg

    Now, boot into safe mode please to carry out the next set of instructions.

    • Now please click Start, and type regedit into the search box.
    • You should see a regedit.exe and icon appear in the Programs area of the Start Menu.
    • Right click on regedit.exe and select Run As Administrator
    • Then in the Registry Editor menu click File and select Import.
    • Navigate to the BFE.reg file saved to your Desktop and double click it. Allow it to be added to the registry.

      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Thank you very much, I don't know how to thank the work you've done. Apparently everything is fine but the last time was too and don't know what happened.

    The only weird thing that happened to me is that the PC wasn't abled to connect, but I used the windows troubleshoot feature and solved it. The firewall also perfect.

    Should I use ccleaner or something similar to delete temporary files? I hope this is the last time and don't give you more work. What should I do now? Do you see anything wrong? How I could protect myself better against this virus? thank you very much again!! :wave

    Yes you can use either CCleaner or Wise Disk Cleaner. Your logs look good.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
    Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
