    Hey,

I'm so sorry to bother you all with a post like this, but I'm kind of worried, my windows defender was scanning and found the file within a download I had for a supposedly anti virus program and now, no matter what I do, I can't remove the virus and already my pc is acting weird, is there anyway at all I can get rid of it? Thank you so much in advance, I'd really appreciate any help at all.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I have one more last scan to do; ComboFix, but when I run it, it asks if I want to go ahead with the disinfection process as computers may fail, I'm worried, shall I still run it?

Yes run ComboFix. Did you install the Recovery Console as the procedure requests?

ComboFix is not the last scan. MGtools is last.

As soon as I run Combofix, it just shows the disinfection message, and I haven't gone past that so I haven't seen anything to do with Recovery Console. Have I done something wrong? Thank you again for your help

The instructions describe how to get the Recovery Console installed. It actually is installed before the scan with ComboFix is run. It just makes use of ComboFix to install it when you do not have your Windows CD. Are you following those instructions and is that when the message comes up? If you are not installing the Recovery Console as requested, it is in your best interest to do so.
