About two days ago i tried to view a video and it said i had to install a new version of active-x. Me being stupid went ahead and downloaded the file from the link they posted. now i have this "critical error" pop up telling me I have the trojan Zlob-X and to remove it by "clicking here" and getting IE Defender (which I know is also a trojan). It also has corrupted my google search engine, whenever i try to search for anything, the top couple are always the same thing, and there is also a message box telling me there is a "Google Error" and a link that sends me to iedefenders webpage. I went through all the steps and cleaning procedures that were posted but I still have the problem. Here is the zip file that I was told to attach.

And thank you for any help you can provide.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You are missing two other logs requested in the procedure that should have been obtained by running the tools before running MGtools.exe. You need to attach the logs from ComboFix and AVG AntiSpyware.

Also you need to disable Spybot's Teatimer as requested in the READ ME!

    Now Disable Spybot's TeaTimer
    • Run Spybot and click Mode
    • Select Advanced Mode.
    • Then click Tools and select Resident.
    • Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    • Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    • and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    • Now quit Spybot!
Now let's begin with the main part of your problem which is an IEdefender infection.
    • Download FixIEDef.zip by ShadowPuterDude to the Desktop.
    • Double-click FixIEDef.zip, this will create a folder named FixIEDef on your Desktop.
    • Double-click of the FixIEDef folder.
    • Locate FixIEDef.bat and double-click on it.
    • FixIEDef will now run.
    • Press any key to close the CMD Console when the script is finished.
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you for your continued support. Now I got to where I am supposed to delete the files in my temp folder, but I do not see them there(see atached picture). Now I can make an educated guess and delete the files with random capital letters, but I want to make sure I clear it with you before I do anything. After you let me know what files to delete I will continue with your steps.

On a positive note my Google searches are working properly again, and I'm not getting that pop up as often as i used to.

It's nice to see that there are still people out there that like to help others.

You can delete ALL of the files in this folder as they are only temp files. Windows will stop you from deleting a couple that are from the current day. Also just leave the folders within Temp alone. Only delete the files.

So i tried to download Avenger, but I guess it isn't compatable with Vista (atleast thats what it tells me). But I cleared out all the files in my temp folder and here is the new log.

You did not need Avenger. That part of my message was supposed to be edited out. And yes it is true that Avenger does not support Vista.

You're logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
