    Hello!
I've been trying to remove trojandownloader.xs from a computer for the past two days (feels like forever). The user noticed a pop-up on Fri March 28 that said there was a spyware infection and to click a link to remove it. The link took us to a website prompting us to purchase software to remove the infection. I tried Symantec Endpoint Protection and Ad-Aware before find your instructions for removing Malware. I went through the instructions but the computer is still infected. The requested log files are attached.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Oh, and I tried to re-install Windows instead of fighting with this this because the user doesn't have any data stored on the pc but I was unsuccessful. When the installation was started within Windows, the product key was rejected. When I tried booting from the CD drive and formatting C, the error message said there was no hard drive. rolleyes

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [aJ4wemabb0] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\litgrwle\pmtutctm.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.BRUKERBIOSPIN\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you so much for your help! Unfortunately, due to time constraints and pressure from above, I've had to go ahead and reformat.
    Thanks again.

No problem but doing backups, reinstalling, getting all updates for ALL software, retweaking settings.....etc. actually takes longer unless there is very little on the PC.
