Trouble accessing one website...Very strange!

    All,

Have a rather strange problem that I've been working around but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. My laptop seems to have an issue successfully finding eztv.it with regularity. It claims "website not found" after a timeout period. My usual internet source is a wifi connection belonging to my roommate. Here's where things get funny: I cannot see eztv's site from my laptop going thru the wifi using any web browser. If I pop down to a command prompt and try to ping, say, google.com it returns immediately. Ping eztv fails request time-out. If I connect my laptop to the internet via phone tethering (IE: using my cellphone provider as my internet connection) then I can view eztv on my laptop.

I can make a wifi connection between my phone and the Wifi AP (Access Point) and view the website just fine, and my roommate gets that site just fine on his computer thru the Wifi AP. It seems like only the very odd combination of my laptop, this Wifi AP and that one website do not work together. Change out any of those three variables and it works fine. I'm pretty sure I must have something screwed up in my routing or DNS but wouldn't have a clue what to do about it. I do have a few cumbersome ways around the problem but I wish I could understand and fix it so I can access this site just like any other.

I did try flushing my local DNS using ipconfig /dnsflush, it runs fine but doesn't fix the problem.

    Thoughts?

One other thing I've noticed: it isn't just the home page I can't access, any old cached link/bookmark/google search hit to a sub-page returns the same thing.

I've never heard of someone having this exact problem before, 1 particular machine plus one particular domain name plus one particular internet connection = FAIL. Change any of the above and it works ducky.

And, of course, once upon a time it worked fine. No, unfortunately I don't recall when it first failed or if I had made any funny changes at that time, as a site in general it was flaky on any computer. When I first started having issues I assumed it was with the site, not with the computer.

    Thoughts? Still screwed up...

    Greetings, scubaddictions.

Shot in the dark - what antispyware/antivirus/firewall software are you using? It's possible that a security program is blocking access to that site.

I've been using Comodo Internet Security suite since I finished battling a spot of malware back in July. It was one of the free suggestions from the Majorgeeks malware removal docs. Perhaps not the best written piece of software but the price was right, it's anti-virus, a firewall and internet security all in one (from just one company) and it's already stopped a number of small attacks. I'll check the settings when I get home, maybe try a temp bypass.

    Good idea, thanks!
