Hi guys. I am having a little bit of a problem with my linksys router that I bought recently. I have it set up in my living room about 30ft or more away from my bedroom, not sure of the exact distance. My signal strength is marked as excellent. I cannot have the router any closer to my room as it has to be accessible by my roomates, just in case something happens to it and it needs to be reset while I am not home. We are all students so we all require a stable internet connection.

When I am playing World of Warcraft I get very high latency and often get disconnected. I know this is not my computer, as it works fine on my friends network; he doesn't have the same router but the capabilities of them are very similar. I also don't think it's my roomates using the router, as I can see whether they are using the network or not; I am having latency issues and disconnects even when they are not connected. I know that to get the best connection possible I should be playing hardwired, but that is not an option due to the placement of the router and the location of the bedroom; I can't spool out cable that far.

I may have found the cause of the issue. I believe that at least 1 or more people in my apartment complex are also using a linksys router. I have the channel set to the default, which is channel 6. If that is the default for all linksys routers, than perhaps there is interference from that. So I have tried to change the channel.

I logged into my router, and in the Basic Wireless Settings tab the network mode is set as mixed - as I am not certain if my roomates computers are capable of handling an N connection. The channel width is set as auto; 20mHz-40mHz. I have the SSID set to broadcast. The problem lies in what the channel is set to. It is currently set to Auto and when I click on the dropdown menu there is no other option listed - I have been told that there should be channels between 1-11. Perhaps the option of "Wifi protected setup" instead of "manual" would let me fix this. However that does not seem to be working either. Sigh.

I want to play my Wow over the wireless without it booting me all the time. Any ideas? Unfortunately, as I said, playing hardwired isn't an option. If it helps I am running windows vista, and the computer is an Acer Aspire 4530, 3 gigs of ram, and the processor is an AMD athlon dual-core at 1.9GHz. Again, it is not the computer, as the game works fine on my friends wifi. I think the router is the issue, but am not sure how to fix it.

I apologize for being longwinded - it's always been my bane. Thanks for any help you can give.

Also I don't think it is the server either as it is a low-medium population server, and other people on the server who I know in real life have never had any problems that weren't server wide. Thanks again.

I am having a similar issue with my v3. Everything is basically set to AUTO and I can't don't have much to choose from. This includes the 20mhz and 40mhz mode.

Have you found out if you need to go through the Wifi set up?

Or have you found a resolution to your problem?

    Thanks!!
