Trouble recording with a microphone

    Hey, everyone.

I am trying to record using a Sony ECM-MS907 Stereo microphone. I have an HP Pavilion laptop with XP Home. The application I am trying to record to is Adobe Audition.

However, when I record, I can barely hear the sound upon playback. This happens with Audition and also with Microsoft Sound Recorder. I have tested the microphone on another computer, and it works fine. I believe that machine has XP professional on it. I also tested it on a different computer with XP Home and Microsoft Sound Recorder, and it didn't work (same as on mine.)

If a Conexant AMC Audio is a sound card, that's my sound card.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Open the volume control, mine is at the clock, check the volume of the "line in" slider.

One can also change line in volumer from:
control panel, sounds and audio devices, select "audio" or "voice" tab, in "sound recording" pane, select volume.

I hope one of these is helpful.

    Well, thanks for the help.

I don't have a "line in" slider. I have Volume Control, Wave, SW Synth, CD Audio, and Microphone. I have them all set high, and it still barely comes through. I have to turn the volume all the way just to hear it on playback.

Did you try going through control panel? What are your options in "Audio' and "Voice"?

In Audio and Voice, I have a Sound Recording section with Conexant AMC Audio as the default device. It is the only option. There is a Volume button and an Advanced button which is greyed out. The Volume button leads to the same panel as you get with the icon by the clock. If I so to Properties in that panel, there is an option to optimize for recording. I've tried that both ways.

Just bumping this up one and one time only. Any help appreciated. I suspect it is an XP Home issue because I have the same problem on another laptop with that OS.
