That's because you have malware!

C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com is a malware file. Only C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.exe (or also C:\WINDOWS\\regedit.exe ) is valid.

Delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com

 

Are you sure you did not delete it? Do you have viewing of hidden files as well as system files enabled?

You never said what OS you have so I will assume it is Windows XP.

Click Start and select Search
Now Select "All files and folders"
Enter the regedit.* in the "All or part of the file name:" box
Now select "More advanced options"
Make sure the following check boxes are checked:

• Search system folders
• Search hidden files and folders
• Search subfolders

Then click the Search button.

Tell me what matches you get. Note the regedit.* is correct. The asterisk is a wildcard. This makes search look for any filename that begins with regedit.
