    Please attach the C:\MGLogs.zip......not what you attached. :)

    Please go here and download and run the AVG Removal Tool[/b]. You may be having issues due to AVG not being uninstalled completely.

    Your logs are clean, though we can remove a few leftover pieces of junk.

    Your main problem is this:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory    765 MB
    Available Physical Memory    122 MB
    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Local\temp\DIO87C7.tmp
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Local\temp\DIOCABF.tmp
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Local\temp\MAR5521.tmp
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Local\temp\MAR57FF.tmp
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Local\temp\MAR8535.tmp
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Local\temp\MAR87A6.tmp

    Folder::
    C:\Users\diane\AppData\Roaming\AVG8
    C:\ProgramData\AVG9
    C:\$AVG

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Your logs are clean, but you did not tell me how things were running for you. Are you having any issues still? Are you able to do updates now?

    Sorry TimW,

    I redone my post when i realised i'd added the wrong files and forgot to say that i was still unable to update and i can't connect to the internet via I.E or firefox. Windows messenger works for some reason. (i'm using a spare laptop at the moment)

    Open SAS and go to preferences / repairs and scroll down to repair broken internet connection. Tell me if that works.

    You may need to pursue this in the networking forum. Are you using wireless or wire connection?

    I'm using a wireless network.

    Plug it in and see if you have the same issue.

    Try this:

    * Go into Control Panel -->Network Connections.
    * Right click on your connection
    * and click Properties.
    * On the Properties page, highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
    * Click Properties. This will bring up another page.
    * Select Obtain DNS Server Automatically.
    * Click the ok button. The page will close.
    * Press ok on the page in front of you.
    * Restart the computer.
    * Reconnect to the Internet using Internet Explorer.

    I don't see anything wrong with those settings. :( And your logs are clean. Perhaps you should post in networking or ask in software.

    OK, will do. Thanks for all your help TimW. :)

    One last thing, since you had AVG at one time, run the Removal Tool again:

    Please go here and download and run the AVG Removal Tool.

    The link you posted was broken, so i downloaded the AVG remover from here http://www.avg.com/gb-en/download-tools is this the correct version? (i used the top one) if so i ran it and it opened up a command prompt, then it vanished. No restarts like it said would happen. And still i can't connect with IE or mozilla. Curiously windows messenger works!

    Sorry about that. You did find the right file/site. I am at a loss as to what is going on. Try ( assuming you have your cd ) going to start / run / and type:
    sfc /scannow

    Do it twice. Then tell me if it finds/replaces any files.

    Well i found an AVG removal tool on the AVG site, so i'm asuming that it was the correct one! I don't have a copy of Vista or a boot disk.

    Nothing in your logs indicate malware and nothing was removed that would have crippled your network settings. Have you gone to device manager to check that there are no errors ( ?, !, or x ) by your network adapters?

  27. neil262

    neil262 Private E-2

    The two devices under network adapters in device manager (Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network adapter and Generic marvell yukon 88e8040 PCI-E fast ethernet controller) are both showing as "this device is working properly" in properties.

    You need to post in networking then. This is beyond the scope of malware removal. :(

    Ok, will do that. Thanks again TimW!:)

    You are most welcome....and you may wish to post in software regarding the AVG removal tool crapping out on you. The two may very well be related!!
