Trouble with my audio driver

Well, I just built a new computer.

The motherboard is an Asus P5k.. The onboard sound card is a Realtek ALC883 @ Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller
I'm running Windows Vista, and can't get any recognition of it working at all. I've plugged speakers into it, and no luck. It just seems that It wants to fuss. I've installed the drivers that came with my ASUS install CD, and still nothing. I can't get sound or audio anywhere on it to work.


I'd like to have my speakers working.

 

Did you set the on-board sound to enabled in the BIOS?

Next, in Device Manager>Sounds, Video, and Game Controllers, does Realtek show up ?
Does it have a ? or ! on it?
In Device Manager>System Devices, is there a Realtek listed there?

 

On Device Manager, under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, I have "Realtek High Definition Audio."

No ! or ? next to it.

On the BIOS I didn't have Realtek something but I did have, "High Definition Audio" and "Front Audio Panel" with the choice of "AC97" or "High Definition" (It was set to "High Definition")

On the System Devices section of the Device Manager, Anything with Realtek was not listed, but there was a "High Definition Audio Controller."

May be the issue?

Sorry, been a bit busy.
My mistake on the HD Audio in system devices. It is just 'sposed to say HD Audio Controller, not Realtek.
If that is installed without errors, then the problem is elsewhere.
Check in your Realtek Audio Manager.
Make sure Speakers are set as default and that the configuration is set to the speaker type that you are using.
