I have tried everything i could find on the net for this problem! I just installed a fresh version of win XP i got from Microsoft online, when i go to connect to the wireless network i have set up, i get this

"windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not be completed: Renewing your IP Address"

i tried reseting it manually in cmd prompt, i reset winsock settings, my router is brand new and is functioning with 2 other computers i own.
    please help me out.

    1) make sure you have the updated version of the drivers for your wireless card

    2) make sure the card is enabled

    • right click on 'My Network Places'
    • choose properties
    • in the window, make sure it shows as enabled

    3) if it's not there or nothing else works,

    • right click on 'My Computer'
    • select 'Manage'
    • click on the 'Device Manager'
    • make sure there's no marks on your wireless adapter

    4) Failing all else, my next step would be to find one that you *know* works and swap out the network adapter.

    Hope this helps.

i did what you instructed, but with no success. all drivers are current, the adapters worked before i installed win xp, "the os i had before was bootleg..." in a laptop, i wouldn't know where to start with swapping parts out. my computer is a 3 y/o Compaq with a belkin wireless antenna card. is there anything else i can try. a day ago it was working, new os, no workie?

It is entirely possible that you have a hardware failure on your hands. I know it sounds coincidental, but mine did the same thing, and it was a bad network card. Am gonna comb through some stuff here and see what I can locate. If all else fails, There may be more advice coming from other sources as well

Every one!! Thank you all for the help. i fixed my problem. I down graded from a computer designed for vista and put xp on it out of frustration. I successfully installed xp but network functions were unavailable so was sound and graphics. at the time i didn't think of it, but the problems were caused by the age of the os. xp is like a 10 yo program, even with service packs. so, if any one else has this problem with xp, go to the company that made your computer, in my case it was hp, and download the drivers that are compatible with xp on a flash drive or cd and install them manually.

=} silly me! it was as easy as 123, no lie.
