I am having trouble with Microsoft XP and Office 2003 updates. They will download but will not install. Also, Internet Explorer is not acting normal. Sometimes, IE will not start after clicking the icon. When I check Task Manager, the process is running but the application does not start. So, I thought a problem might be with install so I uninstalled IE 6 and installed IE 7. However, I am still having the problem. I also tried to run the Detect and Repair for Outlook but that will not run either.

Attached are the logs you requested.

    Thanks.

You problems do no appear to be due to malware. You should check to make sure you are not blocking Windows Update via you firewall or your Bsecure Internet Protection Services software. You may want to post in the Software Forum.

I will however give you a few things that you should do but they will not fix you problems.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
