    Hello,
I have "Ativa AT-810" headset which includes a microhpone.
It is plugged in at the back of my computer.
I use Ventrilo to chat with and everyone keeps hearing a loud static buzzing sound when i speak. I'm thinking it might be my computer fan being recorded.
Is there any way to reduce the amount of static ?
Is it a bad microphone (hardware) or can this be solved by software setting?

Try recording your voice with MS Sound Recorder
    Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder.

Does the playback have a lot of noise that you can't hear in the room?
If so, it is probably a hardware problem.
    Luckily headsets are fairly inexpensive.

Tried using MS Sound Recorder, i hear the static noise there also.
Is there maybe a way to set the sensitivity of the microphone to filter out "low volume" background noise ?

Did your headset come with an installation CD?
If so check it to see if it has a calibration routine.
If not, the only thing I can think of is to get a new headset.
If the one you have is fairly new you might be able to return it to the company who sold it you as defective.
