Try E2Give fix again?

I never thought I'd regret having security programs on my system. Such a melee resulted when Spybot S&D, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, TeaTimer Resident, and !avast simultaneously encountered recent invaders that they managed to slip through anyway. This is a first for me. My Kerio firewall may have jumped in there too but there were too many hollering for attention for me to remember.

I'd like to know if trying to run the generic fix again will just confuse the issue I'm having with E2Give & Prufect, or will it be the last fix I'll need to do?

I've tried everything from removing it with Spybot & Ad-Aware to manually editing the registry, plus safe mode running all your recommended scans listed on your Read & Run Me First page.

I ran Avenger earlier, but it rebooted only once and reported so many "not founds" and "faileds" that I did not go on to do more than run HijackThis without fixing anything. I did all your scans in safe mode instead. Those scans found and removed all but what Panda found, so I thought surely they'd be finally gone, but they're all still with me.

Do I go on to try to complete the generic fix this time, or can you suggest something else? My various scan results are attached. Avenger.txt was done prior to those in safe mode. And the HJT I've attached here was done afterwards.

    Thanks,
    Leah

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Yes you will have to run the E2Give removal procedure again and make sure you follow the directions all the way thru to the end. However before doing that, Run HijackThis and select all of the below (the item in the Trusted Zone I highly recommend fixing unless you are 100% sure you cannot live without them). So select all of the below then exit all browsers and click Fix checked:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\System\panels\blank.htm
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\System\panels\blank.htm

Now reboot into save mode and use Windows Explorer to delete the below:
    C:\Program Files\E2G <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbdnro.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\optimize.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\pop06ap2.exe

Now reboot in normal mode and run the E2Give Removal Procedure sticky procedure.
Afterwards attach the C:\avenger.txt log and a new HijackThis log.

    Thanks for your help.

Before I had a chance to follow your instructions Avast found Win32:CTX, Win32:Adware-gen. [Adw] virus on my system this morning and moved it into its Virus Chest. The first was in the system32 folder and the second in my Local Settings/Temp folder.

I then did as you instructed:
I ran HijackThis and removed the entries in the Trusted Zone.
When I booted into safe mode I found and removed:
    C:\WINDOWS\optimize.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\pop06ap2.exe

I found nothing to remove for the two below:
    Program Files\E2G folder to delete
    Windows\System32\kbdnro.exe file at all

When I ran the E2Give fix HJT found nothing to fix. My avenger and HJT logs are attached.

I afterwards ran thorough scans with all my security sofware and found nothing. I still see kbdnro.exe under the Startup Tab in the System Configuration utility but nothing turned up other than a .pf file in the Windows\Prefetch. I've deleted the file.

    Again, thanks for your help.

Those items in yout HijackThis log that I asked you to fix are almost all still there. Did you remember to click Fix checked. Just in case something is blocking the fix, let's do a temporary uninstall of Windows Defender. So go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Windows Defender. Then reboot and rerun the steps in message # 2 related to using HijackThis. You do not need to repeat the E2Give removal. It seems to have worked. Leave Windows Defender uninstall until I request otherwise.

Attach a new HJT log now.

Yes, I did have HJT fix all the items in the Trused Zone. So I'm really puzzled at what you're finding. I don't see references to anything I was to have gotten rid of other than the kbdnro.exe at:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [kbdnro] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbdnro.exe04

that scans and searches haven't turned up.

But I've done as you asked and attached the log file from the new HJT scan. There's nothing to fix.

I'm really interested at what you'll find.

Btw, if you're seeing arachlea.com anywhere, it's my own domain where I pay for hosting specifically so my visitors can avoid the problem of ads, popups, cookies, etc.

    Thanks,
    Leah

Did my log file get attached? I keep getting a message that it has already been attached but I can't see that it has. I've turned off anything could possibly block it.

If not it's here or here

    Thanks,
    Leah

You still have not fixed what I asked you to fix. You also did not uninstall Windows Defender like I requested. Please follow directions!

The O4 line and the Trusted Zones items are not the only things I asked you to fix. It is rather obvious by just looking at your HJT log the all the O18 lines from Logitech are still there too. Please follow the directions I gave you and fix ALL of the lines requested.

Also does the C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbdnro.exe file exist. If so, delete it.

I'm sorry for wasting your time. My brain has been following my old comprehension of the problem rather than your actual instructions. But I did uninstall Windows Defender, twice actually. I must have installed it again at some point trying to root out kbdnro.exe that was still in my HJT log. Sorry to compound the problem.

I've scanned again and had HJT fix the remaining offenders. I fervently hope they're all gone, for both our sakes. The log is attached.

And no, there still is no kbdnro.exe in the Windows\system32 folder.

    Thanks for your patience.

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
