    hello

I Have Acer AM5100 model computer so I googled and found out

    http://www.1stchoicememory.com/cata...=&source=pla&gclid=CP20yLydh7QCFSXZQgodslUA5A

shows plenty of RAMs for model AM5100.
It's actually my first time installing and I do have extra socket for RAM.
Question is that I heard if I put wrong RAM it won't work...
    But they are same model..
my exact model number is Acer Aspire AM5100-U5201A

If the link is correct then I might purchase from ebay for cheaper price.
    I appreciate for your help.

Yes if you use the wrong memory it won't work, nothing will be damaged but you'll have to go through the process of returning the memory which is a pain.

So after some preliminary research you want DDR 2, your board supports dual channel up to 800mhz and should have four slots, you say you have one free slot so you have 3 sticks of memory? Have you already installed one stick yourself?

I recommend you remove all the memory and write down what it says on the side of each stick to double check they're all the same speed and check the size of each, post your findings.

You can also run crucial's memory checker and see what memory it detects and recommends, this is more accurate than looking up the model on the memory website you posted.

ok so should I buy the same RAM as the ones I stated?

or what about RAMS that specifically built for my computer yet different from the RAM I listed?

Let's say it's not Samsung.. or has different model number..

another question is, can I buy different size of RAM? let's say I buy 1G ram instead of 514MB.. will it work?

Sometimes there is a conflict between 2 different Ram , even either Crucial or Kingstor is the best , have you run this

    as Rikky suggested ? :wave

After years of experience with all sorts of RAM problems, I now will buy nothing but Crucial RAM. They use top-O-the-Line "Micron" memory chips. Whereas, Kingston uses up to 85% refurbished ram and it can cause all sorts of misc. problems.

The RAM is the very heart of your computer....so don't skimp on it, buy buying some Cheap Replacement. I, like many other tech's and computer Geeks, will buy nothing but Crucial RAM. Get the best and forget the rest! OK?

    Happy Holidays!
