specifically MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KN936181) ... from the windows Add remove programs. Get an error "the feature your are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

Source it is trying to use is 'c:\87164a0e772d61390b96c06d180c8327\'

I am also trying to remove another entry of the same MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB 954430) and I get the same error .

I just want to make sure I have a working, most up to date version of this. How do I get rid of these?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chad

    Hi

Give it a try with the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to see if when you highlight those files than it uninstalls.

Is Windows update alrerting you to updates for these?

No. I was just experienceing VERY slow startups so I am in the process of removing all the old programs I never use or I know have updates available so I can install the freshest versions. All the scans in Chas' malware guide come back clean so I am just trying to make the system as minimal as possible and see if I stumble on some resource hog

I will try the cleanup tool. Thank you

For me,I just do an F8 safe mode in Admin.Open search and enter the KB****(number)that you are trying to remove. You can also see what else pulls up with it if you wish to add more to your removal.HijackThis ADS search will also pull up your MSXML files usually. If you know what you are doing, delete it there.I find Bleachbit pretty easy and effective (freebie on Major Geeks),especially in finding those "pesky"files.Sometimes they will reboot though,so make sure you do a F8 safe search to remove once and for all.Hope this helps.Grandma
FYI-I found KB956572 and KB938828 to slow programs-they are assigned "remote"by Microsoft. They also "act"like cookies!I do not have a laptop,so I remove all RP files automatically. IE8 and SP3 slowed me down quite a bit.So I stay with the old IE6 and XP2 for my desktops.
