    Hi Miss Gwyneth,

I've only found one reference to TVANTS so far which is in your firewall. I would like to ask you to return your computer to a restore point which preceeds the installation of this software and see if this might most easily correct the problem. If you've never done this before, Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore check the box to Restore my computer to an earlier time and click on Next. You'll see a calendar with highlighted dates. Choose one of the dates just preceeding these problems and allow your system to return to that date. See if the problem goes away.

Let me know how this goes.

    Hi,

I tried the system restore a couple of times, but it doesn't work. It always says it can't restore to that time. Incomplete.

    Oh, I see it sorry!
    I must be blind. ...

    Let's try the following:

Download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not,
      reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After you complete the removal with Avenger, please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only.

ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some
cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords,
please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords,
please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Finally, please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log.

Let me know how things are running now?

Ay! Before I read this, I was able to uninstall the tvants.exe on my desktop by reinstalling tvants and then using the unwise. But my computer is still slow. Should I redo the READ & RUN ME FIRST again to see what's wrong with my laptop? This is getting really frustrating :( I just got this reformatted and then installed tvants now it's all cuckoo. Also, after I was able to uninstall tvants, I took out the spybot and the other stuff from READ & RUN ME FIRST programs since I figured I have my McAfee and Ad Aware already.

    Miss Gwyneth,

I'm redoing this post, because there might be some things that would help before I recommend that you reformat.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Please run avenger again as you did in the last set of instructions only this time I would like for you to use the contents of this box:
After your computer reboots, please run CCleaner.

Then I would like to ask you about the following: Is it something you installed?

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{7a4fcfb2-e15d-11dc-a8fa-00166fb83120}]
    \Shell\AutoRun\command - E:\winPenPack.exe

Also, do you know what the following might be?

    R0 AFPUni;Alfa File Protector Uni;C:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\AFPUni.sys [2008-02-22 23:19]

    Hi Abri,

It failed. It couldn't find netsvcs.exe

And the two files that you asked about was probably installed when I installed tvants coz that was around that date when I installed it.

    Hi Miss Gwyneth,
    Not giving up quite yet.

First I want to ask you what is in this folder? Is this a folder you created?

    C:\Documents and Settings\Gladys\My Documents\Delete

I can't remember if I've asked you, but are you unable to get your computer into normal startup mode using msconfig? Please go to start / run and type in msconfig and click okay. In the window that opens up, please check normal startup mode and click on accept and okay. This will allow me to fix your startup items which I'm not able to do if you use either diagnostic or selective startup.

Then I would like for you to do the following:

    1) Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://industry.yidaba.com/jichuang/rlzy/2761601.shtml?wt.mc_id=wxy_tvants_002

After you click fix, just close hijackthis.

    2) Please run Avenger again as you did in post 7 only this time use the contents of this box:
    3) After doing the above, please run CCleaner in the default setting with the Windows tab as the one on top.

    4) Then I would like for you to do the following:
    Please download RegSrch.zip

Unzip the archive to your desktop and double click on the VBS file.
(If your AntiVirus alerts, allow the script to run.)

Now enter C:\windows\system32\netsvcs.exe and give the results a name like regsrch1.txt

Then enter Tvants and give the results a name like regsrch2.txt

    5) Finally, please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip it generates along with the Avenger log and the two regsrch logs.

Let me know how things are running now?

    Hi Abri,

Thank you for all your help but I couldn't take it anymore so I reformatted yesterday. If you could just personally recommend an antispyware to me (Yes, I've read the ones yall posted but I want your personal opinion). I'm using McAfee as an anti-virus.

    Hi Miss Gwyneth,

I don't like to recommend reformatting, but I expect in this particular case, it was the fastest solution and I don't feel you did the wrong thing. Hopefully you won't run across that problem again.

I highly recommend using Spyware Blaster for the special protection it offers. Also, the immunization which Spybot Search & Destroy offers is very good and you should install it and apply that feature. Both of these are background tools which don't require anything active on your part. I use CCleaner religiously to keep things out of the temporary files which tend to harbor malware. Other than that I only use a firewall and an antivirus program - at the moment Zone Alarm free and AVG antivirus free. This combination has worked well for a number of years. If you want to run a resident antispyware, I recommend SuperAntispyware, which will give you resident protection if you purchase it, or AVG Antispyware which is also good. As long as you don't have the McAfee internet security suite, but only their antivirus, you will have no problem with either of these or with a-squared. The download links for all of these are in the How to Protect Yourself from Malware thread.

    I hope this helped.
    Good luck with your computer.
