Twitter Users Prosicuted

Anyone in the UK will no doubt be familiar with recent event around Twitter disclosing the identities of individuals who publish information that breaches Court Super Injunctions.

Normally such tweets are a civil offence and it is up to the individual who request the injunction to take civil action against any one who breaches the injunction, however the powers that be are now saying that they will prosicute individuals, who breach such injunctions, with contempt of court.

However this brings another issue. The purpose of an injunction is to stop people talking about somthing that is personal. In order to know about the injunction I must know the information that is not to be published, however the reverse is not true. Just because I hear some gossip that a well know Welsh Footballer has alledgedly had an affair does not mean that I know there is an injunction preventing its publication.

Does this mean that there is serious risk that innocent individuals who tweet about something could unwitingly end up in jail for their tweets?

Also how can you balance everyone human right of freedom of speech against another persons right to privacy?

Nah its just not gonna happen,75,000 people tweeted Ryan Giggs name within a day of it coming out.

They may investigate where the original leak came from though just as in wikileaks,if the leak came from a court official,invested party then I'd imagine they may well get prosecuted if they can be traced.

The law will have to be radically changed in the near future to cope with the modern world.
