I have two all-in-one Sony Vaio PCV-W20 and W30 series computers. The W20 started shutting off in the middle of games, the monitor felt hot, and then it would boot to a black screen. You can see the computer go to windows with no problem if you hold a flashlight to it, when it starts you can see the sony logo and the diagnostic bios scroll and then black. I tried getting into Bios but the screen goes black after a few seconds. The W30 boots up fine with all the start up sounds, hard disk running, but the display is totally black, I can't see anything on the display with a flashlight. I changed the power supply and the inverter board, checked all the fans and connections. Since it is an all in one system I can't test the computers with another monitor. Thanks for any help with this nightmare!

First thing I would do would be to open it up as much as you can and blow it out ....clear vents and fans, etc.

What games were you playing that would make the screen go black?

    Hi,
No external VGA plug. The computers are a cross between a laptop and desktop with flip up keyboard. My son was playing Rocket Mania when it started happening I'm told. Then he said it just shut down and wouldn't start, so I opened it, cleaned it and put a new power supply in, it then would stay on but still the black screen. I then installed a new inverter board and the same thing, it lights up for a few second at Bios but then goes black, it will even show a second or two of the blue screen when it gets to windows but then goes black, although I can still barely see the windows screen. I asked my son what was happening, he said he notice the screen would get hot before it shut off. I notice when I took it apart that the monitor plugs into the mother board. Thanks for you time
