Two Easy Questions About SVCHOST

After expending another portion of my life on one of those gawd awful periods of trying to figure out a SVCHOST problem (1), I have concluded that I would like to start a FAQ. (Yeah, I know freaking idjit. )

One of these days perhaps Micro$oft will get this figured out - the problem has only been around for ~ 10 years. (For those noobs who have have not met one of the SVCHOST problems yet (aside from eating all your CPU cycles, but the real ones) you probably will. And its not a happy time - usually.

Here at MG a search on SVCHOST.EXE gives ~ 1,300 hits and on Google 2.6 million. Lots of interest in that topic, eh?

Easy (Stoopid)? 1 - Is there any proggy out there than can run and give some type indication that a problem with SVCHOST is eminent? Yeah - I know "when will my machine crash - duh?" Seriously..

Easy ? 2 - I am not looking at stuff like Task Manager, Taskmaster, Process Explorer, ProcMon, System Explorer, Tasklist etc. But there IS a proggy out there that you can run and it clearly and easily identifies each instance of SVCHOST running and what is running under each Instance. (Unfortunately stoopid me, I had it, did not write down the name & lost it during my DeepFreeze time. P.S. I am not looking at any of the Many Misc Paid for SW that pop up in context under Google ads and will not fix any problem known to Geekkind anyway.

(1) BTW, almost forgot. To clean up my last SVCHOST problem at 4:00 AM this morning I had to change the Service Windows User Mode Driver Framework to Disabled. :confused Really. I was getting the old SVCHOST can't Read problem, could not dial the Internet, could not set up a new dial out connection, Registry entries missing - oh and almost forgot: could not use Restore points. :cry Heh.
