Two laptops keep dropping connection

My friend has recently bought two (nearly identical} Toshiba laptops, and both keep dropping internet connection. His network is mixed wireless/wired and his connection is through an EnGenius router via a cable modem. He has a lot of computers, but the Toshibas are the ONLY ones with any sort of connection problem.

All his computers are Windows, and the two Toshibas are Windows 7 Home Premium. Relevant fact: I've tried the laptops on my (ADSL) network, and there's no problem I can see. Conclusion: it's something to do with the cable connection. Any ideas would be appreciated, because the computers are virtually unusable as things are.

 

This reads like there's a problem with the EnGenius router settings. It could be that it's set to allow wireless connex for only a short time or that the security settings aren't 100% compatible with the Tosh's. Get into the router settings and look around, find the manual and read it.

Google sent me to this site when I searched for your issue. . I don't know if you have resolved the issue yet, but if you haven't you might try changing the channel on the router in case you're getting interference.

 

Thanks for that, it looks potentially useful. My friend had to go away suddenly on business, and I won't be able to try out these ideas until he gets back later this week.
